B. B. Gates deceased. The subject of this sketch was born in Rutland county, Vt.,
March 2, 1800. He was reared and educated in the town of Mina, near Chautauqua lake; was a carpenter and millwright. He was married
in 1829 to Miss Susannah Alvord, daughter of Samuel and Ursula Alvord (deceased), and a sister to Mr. Alvord, of Hamilton, Ill.
They had 9 children, of whom but 3 are living. Mr. Gates came to this county in 1836, where he resided until his death in
1849.
